Overview of Tilicho Lake Trek

Tilicho Lake Trek, nestled at 4,919m, is a breathtaking gem formed by the Tilicho Peak glacier. A highlight of the Annapurna Circuit, this side trip from Manang offers an unforgettable adventure amid snow-capped peaks and pristine mountain vistas. The journey, typically 15 days, can be tailored for comfort.

Tilicho Lake, nestled at an altitude of 4,919 meters (16,139 feet), is a breathtaking glacial lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Located near Manang on the Annapurna Circuit, it offers an opportunity to immerse in the vibrant culture of the Manang and Mustang villages. The villages of Jomsom and Marpha are renowned for their tasty apples and apricots, and the strong winds of Jomsom add an exciting element to the trek. Tatopani, famous for its natural hot springs and lush orange orchards, makes this trekking route one of Nepal's most unforgettable adventure experiences.

Tilicho Lake Trekking begins first; you will land at Kathmandu Airport, stay overnight in Kathmandu, and then drive the next day to Besisahar or further. It is a beautiful trekking route along the Marshyangdi river bank and Manang Valley in the Annapurna circuit. You are exploring the first part of the hilly region and terraces, the local lifestyle, and their culture. You will see many white snow peaks with their scenic beauty. Annapurna Himalayan ranges include I, II, III, IV, Tilicho Peak, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and many more.

Manang is a charming village rich in cultural heritage, featuring beautiful Buddhist monuments. It serves as an ideal spot for acclimatization for Tilicho Lake Trek, offering both scenic day excursions and moments of relaxation. One of its highlights is the breathtaking Gangapurna Lake, surrounded by crystal-clear towering peaks. The region's farmers raise yaks, cows, sheep, and goats, contributing to the area's rustic charm. After a few hours of exploration, you can return to the hotel for a refreshing warm shower and enjoy a delightful lunch at the Fresh Baker Cafe. It’s truly a day of tranquility.

Tilicho Lake is situated at the highest altitude, 4919m. It is adventurous; we arrange to take it slowly from low land. It takes a few days to arrive in the beautiful village of Manang. You will touch Tiliko Lake in two days from Manang. Tilicho Base Camp has well-managed lodges and provides nice food and comfortable rooms. The next day, early in the morning, after taking breakfast, you must hike to the lake. It takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to get to Tilicho Lake, observe it, take photos, drink a cup of hot tea at the tea shop, and then return to base camp. After taking lunch and backpacking to Shree Kharka, you need to walk for a couple of hours.

The next day, you will join the main trail at Yak Kharka in the Annapurna Circuit. Trekking continues to Throng Phedi, High Camp, and the highest passes of Thorong La, 5416m. You will arrive at the holy area in Muktinath. Here are Hindu and Buddhist temples and monasteries. Many pilgrims come to worship. It is part of Upper Mustang, Windy Valley, Apple Valley, and Kaligandaki Valley. The trek ends in Jomsom, and you can fly back to Pokhara or drive to Tatopani, Beni, and Pokhara, or you can walk to Tatopani, Ghorepani, and Ghandruk village, then end in Pokhara. At least you can fly or drive back to Kathmandu. Exploring various things, many white snow peaks, and wilderness beauties. It gives you such pride and pleasure in your lifetime.

Nar Phu Valley, Tilicho Lake, and Annapurna Circuit Trek

We had a wonderful 15 days of trekking with Jay, as well as some RnR days in Pokhara and Kathmandu that he organized. He was easy to work with during the planning phase, and everything was well organized at every step of our journey. Jay and Umess, our porter, were great company and shared lots of local information with us during our trek. We would highly recommend the Nar Phu Valley over the Annapurna Circuit -- remote and very few foreigners, with a fantastic opportunity to experience the rhythm of life in isolated Nepali mountain villages. Tilicho Lake is also spectacular, although the route was busier than normal due to the festival season. Thanks, Jay, for making our Nepal trip such a fantastic adventure!
