Iconic Everest Base Camp Trek 14-Days

The Everest Base Camp Trek is an iconic adventure that many people like to leave their footprint at the base of the world’s highest mountain (5,364m). We offer a perfectly designed 14-day journey that covers everything from your arrival in Nepal to your departure.

You’ll hike to the famous viewpoint of Kalapatthar (5,545m), where you'll witness breathtaking views of Mt. Everest (8,848m) along with other majestic Himalayan peaks such as Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Nuptse (7,861m), Pumori (7,161m), and Amadablam (6,812m).

But this trek is not only about the mountains; it’s a deep cultural experience. You’ll meet the legendary Sherpa people, known for their strength, resilience, and warm hospitality. They live in peaceful mountain villages, work as farmers, and raise yaks and cattle. Their rich traditions and spiritual lifestyle make the Khumbu Valley a fascinating place to explore.

As you trek, you’ll pass through lush forests and high alpine landscapes. The Everest region lies within Sagarmatha National Park, so you'll need a national park entry permit, which we’ll organize for you in advance.

Everest Base Camp Trek Route

We warmly welcome you in Kathmandu, where we’ll help you prepare for the trek. The next day, you’ll take a scenic flight to Lukla and start your journey. The first day’s walk leads to Phakding through beautiful villages and suspension bridges.

From there, you'll trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), a famous Sherpa town and the heart of the Khumbu region. Along the way, you’ll pass villages like Monjo and Jorsalle, where there’s an important permit checkpoint for Sagarmatha National Park. Our experienced guide will carry all permits and take care of formalities at each checkpoint.

After lunch in Jorsalle, you’ll cross the longest and deepest suspension bridge on the trail, known as the Hillary Bridge, before ascending steadily to Namche Bazaar.

Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar

Namche is the main hub of the Everest region, filled with lodges, bakeries, pubs, and trekking shops. It’s the perfect place to acclimatize. We recommend a day hike to either the Everest View Hotel or Khumjung and Khunde villages (around 3,860m). From the hotel, you'll see an incredible panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku, and more. Enjoy a warm drink with a view you’ll never forget.

In the afternoon, return to Namche for lunch and some free time to relax or explore.

Trekking Toward Base Camp

From Namche, your next destination is the stunning Tengboche Monastery, surrounded by dramatic mountain views. You’re welcome to visit the monastery, where you can observe or join in the peaceful morning or evening prayer ceremonies. It’s a special place that brings a sense of calm and spiritual energy.

The trail then continues through Pangboche and into Dingboche, with constant views of the beautiful Amadablam. The route is steady and well-worn, making it enjoyable even as you ascend.

Another Rest Day for Acclimatization

Proper acclimatization is key to a successful adventure. Dingboche is a beautiful valley with many cozy lodges. We suggest a half-day excursion to Nangkartsang Hill (4,400m to nearly 5,000m), which offers 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks. It’s a challenging but rewarding climb, taking around 3 hours up and 1.5 hours down.

Adventure at High Altitude

Your journey continues to Lobuche (4,970m), where the true adventure begins. Thanks to our well-paced itinerary and rest days, you’ll be well-prepared for the altitude. We move at your pace and make sure you're comfortable.

From Lobuche, we head to Gorakshep (5,160m), the highest overnight stop of the trek. It’s a short 3- to 3.5-hour hike. Lodges here are simple but warm and welcoming, offering hearty meals and kind service.

Visit to Base Camp of Everest

In the afternoon, you’ll finally reach Everest Base Camp! It’s around 2 to 2.5 hours from Gorakshep on a mostly gentle glacier path. Standing at the base of the highest mountain on Earth is a proud and emotional moment. After enjoying the views, return to Gorakshep for a well-earned rest.

Kalapatthar: Stunning Viewpoint (5545m)

The next morning, hike to Kalapatthar (5,545m), one of the most scenic and highest viewpoints in the region. Although the climb is steep and challenging due to the thin air, the reward at the top is incredible. In front of you stands Mt. Everest in full glory, along with

  1. Everest (8848 m/29029 ft.) is the world's highest peak.
  2. Lhotse (8,516 m/27,940 ft.), 4th highest in the world
  3. Makalu (8,463 m/27,765 ft.), 5th highest
  4. Nuptse (7,861 m/25,790 ft.) Towering nearby
  5. Pumori (7,161 m/23,495 ft.) A graceful, striking peak
  6. Amadablam (6,812 m/22,350 ft.) is Often called the most beautiful mountain in Nepal

You’ll return to Gorakshep for breakfast and then begin your descent, trekking back through Lobuche and down to Pheriche.

Returning Downhill to Lukla

After achieving your dream of reaching Everest Base Camp, the return journey follows the same trail—through Pangboche, Tengboche, and Namche—before heading to Lukla via Monjo and Phakding.

We’ll take you down slowly and safely on the way up, but you’ll find that descending feels much easier. You can reach Lukla in about 3 days, and it will feel like a celebration!

In Lukla, you’ll enjoy your final evening with your trekking team—guides and porters who supported you throughout. It’s a time to show gratitude, share stories, and celebrate success.

Back to Kathmandu and Departure

After a scenic 35-minute flight (weather permitting), you'll return to Kathmandu. In some cases, flights may divert to Ramechhap due to weather or airport traffic, but we’ll assist you throughout.

You’ll stay in a nice, comfortable hotel in the city, relax, and prepare for your journey home.

On your final day, we’ll transfer you to the airport in a private vehicle. With hearts full of memories and new friendships, you’ll leave Nepal after completing one of the most iconic treks on Earth.

Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit and Ganesh Himal Kanchenjunga treks

I met Jay in April 2007, who guided me on the Gokyo – Cho La pass – Everest Base Camp Trek. As well as wanting to do this trek, I was also out there with a work colleague who was climbing Everest that season (he succeeded with Alpine Ascents). Jay more than met my expectations and assisted me in my needs for the trek, ensuring I could meet up with my colleague at specific places, as we had different itineraries. My personal highlight was meeting him at Base Camp, where his group was carrying out a Puja ceremony, something I hadn’t seen before. Jay found good accommodation in all of the villages and as a bonus I paid extra to get us into the Eco Lodge at Lobuche. In addition he will take into account your physical condition, primarily thinking about your walking speed and not allowing you to ascend the trail too quickly in order to aid acclimatisation.

He noted that I had some time left in my holiday, which I had set aside for sightseeing and collecting souvenirs in Kathmandu. He asked if I would like to trek to his village, just south of the Ganesh Himal. It gave me a further insight into Nepalese culture, a different way of life in comparison to the ‘commercialised’ regions of the Khumbu and Annapurna.

He is very friendly and is open, honest and understanding with a great sense of humour. He always seems to be happy, but then he loves his job, which you can probably understand! He has a great knowledge of Nepal’s rich history and culture and was always quick to point this out along the way.

Jay will pick you up from the airport and will ably assist you in looking for extra gear you may require for the trek.

Jay is not just a guide to me, he is also a friend. We have stayed in contact since the Everest Base Camp trek and I visited Nepal again in October/November 2010. We first trekked in the Ganesh Himal area back to his village, this time via the start of the Langtang route, catching a bus to Syrabru Besi and west over two passes. A further two days trekking, a Jeep and two buses then led me to the Annapurna Circuit. It also gave me the opportunity to visit Pokhara and carry out some sightseeing in Kathmandu’s districts of Bhaktapur and Patan.

In March/April 2015 I undertook a long held ambition in trekking the Kanchenjunga region. Jay was unable to accompany me due to other commitments and he assigned me a fantastic guide and porter. I had an amazing time with them and I came back and met up with Jay to do some other things for a few days.

I can thoroughly recommend Jay as a guide and if you enjoy your trek as much as me, then you will have had one of your best experiences of a life time.
