A short Tilicho Lake Trek offers an unforgettable journey to one of the world’s highest lakes, located at 4,919m above sea level. This trek follows a spectacular section of the Annapurna Circuit and includes the thrilling Thorong La Pass (5,416m).

Tilicho Lake Short Trek with Vibrant Culture and Scenic Beauty

The Tilicho Lake Short Trek takes you through the culturally rich Manang Valley, following the picturesque Marshyangdi River. Along the way, you’ll be treated to mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks and stunning alpine landscapes from every angle.

You’ll pass numerous charming farming villages, showcasing traditional culture and religious heritage. Manang is especially known for its preserved Tibetan-influenced architecture and lifestyle.

Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani

The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, followed by an off-road jeep ride to Dharapani. Though it’s a long travel day using local buses and jeeps, the journey offers incredible countryside views. Alternatively, you can hire a direct private jeep from Kathmandu for a smoother experience.

Dharapani Village Junction of Two Famous Treks

Dharapani marks the end point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek and the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit. It also houses an Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) checkpoint, making it a key gateway to the region’s trekking trails.

Start of the Nature Trek—Villages and Forest Trails

Short Tilicho Lake Trekking begins From Dharapani, the trail winds through beautiful alpine forests and traditional villages like Bagarchhap, Danaque, and Timang. The climb to Timang is steep and adventurous—just a preview of what’s to come at Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass. Continue past Thanchok and Koto before arriving at Chame, the administrative center of the Manang District.

Scenic Apple Orchards and Upper Pisang

The next day brings stunning scenery with apple orchards in Bratang and the awe-inspiring rock wall known as the "Gateway to Heaven." The trail leads you to Upper Pisang, where you’ll find a large monastery and spectacular Himalayan panoramas.

Trek to Manang Village

On Day 4, the trail continues along the upper route, offering uninterrupted views of Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna III, IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Pisang Peak. Though the path climbs steadily, the incredible mountain vistas make the effort worthwhile.

You’ll pass through traditional villages like Ghyaru and Ngawal, then trek on to Braka Village before reaching Manang, one of the largest villages in the region.

Rest Day at Manang - Explore and Acclimatize

Manang is a lively village with many amenities for trekkers, including bakeries, hot showers, trekking shops, and even movie screenings. Spend your rest day exploring the Gangapurna Lake and nearby viewpoints. This day helps your body adjust to the altitude before heading higher.

We kindly recommend having a rest here because of the short time getting altitude of adventure trekking in Tilicho Lake (4919m) and Thorong La Pass (5416m). It makes it acclimatized.

Trekking Towards Tilicho Lake

From Manang, begin your trek to Tilicho Base Camp, which takes about 7 hours. The trail offers beautiful views but also passes through a few landslide-prone sections—so walk carefully with your team. The Base Camp offers cozy lodges with warm hospitality and hygienic meals.

Visit to Tremendous Tilicho Lake

Set off early in the morning to reach Tilicho Lake (4,919 m)—a climb of over 700m from Base Camp. The trail takes 3 to 4 hours, and due to the altitude, it’s important to walk slowly and stay hydrated. Upon arrival, the incredible turquoise lake and the towering Tilicho Peak will take your breath away—it truly feels like a "piece of paradise."

Take photos, sip a hot drink at the tea shop, and soak in the peaceful beauty before trekking back to Shree Kharka.

Reconnect with Annapurna Trail at Yak Kharka or Ledar

The trek now joins the main Annapurna Circuit Trail again at Yak Kharka or Ledar. The walk is relatively smooth with panoramic views of the Manang Valley and surrounding peaks.

Prepare for Thorong La Pass Sleep at highest altitude

From here, trek to Thorong Phedi (4450 m) or High Camp (4850 m)—the last stop before the pass. After visiting Tilicho Lake, your body is better acclimatized for the altitude, so staying at High Camp is possible for most trekkers.

Adventure Over Thorong La Pass (5,416m)

Begin your trek before 6:00 AM to cross Thorong La Pass early, avoiding high winds at the summit. The climb from Phedi takes around 4 hours, while from High Camp, it’s about 3.5 hours. After reaching the top, enjoy breathtaking views and snap photos with the Thorong La Pass sign.

Then descend to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, known for its eternal flame and peaceful ambiance.

Drive to Pokhara from Muktinath

Your trekking journey concludes in Muktinath. From here, take a local bus or shared jeep back to Pokhara.
