Details of Ruby Valley Trek

Ruby Valley Trek is introduced as a newly recognized trekking destination and is less crowded, but lots of local people occupy the place of Nepal. There, you can explore the massive Tamang community, Gurung community, and Dalit. Several motivating ethnic groups of a mixed lifestyle offer you a glance into real Nepali life, and it gives visitors an opportunity to scrutinize the rich Nepalese cultural tradition from the neighboring district and intermingle with locals, hence giving the sightseeing a sense of satisfaction.

The Ruby Valley trekking is a newly promoted trekking track in Nepal, but trekkers can explore lots of typical people's lifestyles, their culture, the Gurung & Tamang lifestyle, and their tradition, as well as natural beauties like hot springs and white & black ponds. It is a culturally rich and naturally beautiful place in Nepal. It is situated to the northwest of Kathmandu, with terraced hillsides appearing to ascend to the sky. Before we called Ganesh Himal Trekking, we always faced Mt. Ganesh Himal (7422 m). But lately, local people have called it Ruby Valley because ruby is a crystal, and people have found a source of mines.

Ruby Valley Trekking or Ganesh Himal A trek through picturesque villages and unspoiled areas of the country leads us to Singla Pass (4045 m) and Pangsang Pass (3850 m), where mountain views are superb. The trail then descends through beautiful pine forests and villages, and we arrive at Sertung and onto the village of Chalishgaon. It is a very beautiful and typical cultural Gurung village.

The trail then heads up to the black & white lakes at the base of Ganesh Himal. It is truly unique and an extra gift by God as well as a natural hot spring between Chalishgaon and Hindung. It is situated in a remote area where there are few villages. Chalishgaon to the natural hot spring takes a couple of hours.

We can arrange a trek in this area to suit your requirements and timescale. We have given 3 trekking route options; please find them.

Ruby Valley Trek is one of the high passes of Pangsang Pass (3850 m), and there will be most of the time cool weather, so you need to prepare enough warm clothing and gear, such as big jacket like a down jacket, warm enough fleece, warm pants & inner, warm hat, gloves, warm enough socks, warm trousers or trekking pants, some quick-dry trekking t-short, half pants, warm enough negative sleeping bag, comfortable trekking boot, headlight, sandals, a 2-liter water bottle, sun cream, sunglasses, comfort bag, camera and charger as two-pin, towel, toiletries, etc.

Carry your important medicine:

Medicine is very important; if you have any ailment, you must carry the medicine with you. In that “prevention is better than cure” mountain region, we can’t find any healthcare, clinics, or hospitals. If there is a clinic, you may not get medicine according to your problems. So that, I humbly request, please prepare. If you are continually taking any medicine, please bring it with you or buy it in Kathmandu. It is very important but our company will provide something first: an aid kit bag normally or headaches,  fever, stomach problems like  diarrhea, coughs & colds, some bandages, tape & Diamox for high altitude sickness, etc.

Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit and Ganesh Himal Kanchenjunga treks

I met Jay in April 2007, who guided me on the Gokyo – Cho La pass – Everest Base Camp Trek. As well as wanting to do this trek, I was also out there with a work colleague who was climbing Everest that season (he succeeded with Alpine Ascents). Jay more than met my expectations and assisted me in my needs for the trek, ensuring I could meet up with my colleague at specific places, as we had different itineraries. My personal highlight was meeting him at Base Camp, where his group was carrying out a Puja ceremony, something I hadn’t seen before. Jay found good accommodation in all of the villages and as a bonus I paid extra to get us into the Eco Lodge at Lobuche. In addition he will take into account your physical condition, primarily thinking about your walking speed and not allowing you to ascend the trail too quickly in order to aid acclimatisation.

He noted that I had some time left in my holiday, which I had set aside for sightseeing and collecting souvenirs in Kathmandu. He asked if I would like to trek to his village, just south of the Ganesh Himal. It gave me a further insight into Nepalese culture, a different way of life in comparison to the ‘commercialised’ regions of the Khumbu and Annapurna.

He is very friendly and is open, honest and understanding with a great sense of humour. He always seems to be happy, but then he loves his job, which you can probably understand! He has a great knowledge of Nepal’s rich history and culture and was always quick to point this out along the way.

Jay will pick you up from the airport and will ably assist you in looking for extra gear you may require for the trek.

Jay is not just a guide to me, he is also a friend. We have stayed in contact since the Everest Base Camp trek and I visited Nepal again in October/November 2010. We first trekked in the Ganesh Himal area back to his village, this time via the start of the Langtang route, catching a bus to Syrabru Besi and west over two passes. A further two days trekking, a Jeep and two buses then led me to the Annapurna Circuit. It also gave me the opportunity to visit Pokhara and carry out some sightseeing in Kathmandu’s districts of Bhaktapur and Patan.

In March/April 2015 I undertook a long held ambition in trekking the Kanchenjunga region. Jay was unable to accompany me due to other commitments and he assigned me a fantastic guide and porter. I had an amazing time with them and I came back and met up with Jay to do some other things for a few days.

I can thoroughly recommend Jay as a guide and if you enjoy your trek as much as me, then you will have had one of your best experiences of a life time.

    Great guide in Nepal

Jaya was our guide for two treks, one to Everest Base Camp and one to his village up in the mountains. Both were amazing experiences and I would recommend him to anyone planning to explore Nepal.
