It is relatively easy trekking for all ages along the permitted route to Lo Manthang, a small kingdom under one of the few Nepalese principalities’ supposed kings, King Jigme Palwar Bista.

TIJI FESTIVAL

Tiji Festival is a three-day celebration in the month of May in Lo-Manthang, Mustang, according to the lunar calendar. In an attempt to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, a colorful and mystical play of Tibetan rituals, dances, and prayers takes place.

Tibetan monks wear colorful attire and perform dance rituals that signify a story. Tsowo, the main dancer, completes a three-month retreat before the event. There are three major stages to the dance ritual. In the preliminary part of the dance, there are 15 steps; in conclusion, there are steps to clear away eternal and nihilistic views and to provide auspiciousness. Different poses and gestures signify different processes of meditation in symbolic ways, and all of the dance steps have deeper meanings.

Tiji roughly translates to prayers for world peace.’ To witness a rainbow of culture, tradition, and colors Head over to Upper Mustang and enjoy this beautiful celebration of good over evil. We hiked with Jaya in 2011, doing both Everest Base Camp and Upper Mustang (Lo Manthang). Both of these hikes were absolutely amazing, and we couldn't have asked for a better guide! Jaya is friendly, organised and lots of fun to hike with! Would recommend Jaya to anyone looking for some excellent trekking in Nepal!
